Imaginative, artistic, and resourceful are just a few words used to describe SPINVFX’s new President and VFX Supervisor, Samir Hoon.
With a career spanning over three decades, Samir brings with him a range of international experience in the industry, adding a bold new dimension to SPIN’s leadership.
A graduate of Sheridan College, Samir returns to Toronto “virtually” after spending the last 6 years at Netflix as their Director of Production Solutions, Asia-Pacific, having led significant initiatives aimed at aligning regional priorities with global studio strategy across all production functions. Prior to that, he spent 19 years at Industrial Light & Magic/Lucasfilm in various artistic and leadership positions and eventually leading their Singapore Studio expansion in 2012.
“Samir’s like-minded passion for the art and production of filmmaking make him the perfect fit for our team. I’m very excited to have Samir join our SPIN family,” says SPINVFX CEO/Executive Producer, Neishaw Ali. “His superpower is his ability to bridge the gap between Filmmakers and Production to bring their stories to life onscreen by finding creative and technical solutions.”
He has worked on a number of notable projects such as: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Eragon, Bumblebee, Star Trek Into Darkness, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and Tron: Legacy, to name a few.

When he is not steering complex projects, you can find him cruising in an ATV, putting on the golf course or enjoying quality time with his daughter and dog.
