Laurent Gillet

Visual Effects Supervisor

Imaginative, curious, and problem-solving are just a few words we would use to describe our VFX Supervisor, Laurent Gillet. His 30-year journey in visual effects began in his teenage years, when he started experimenting with CG as a hobby using early software like POV-Ray and 3DS3. That early fascination and passion soon evolved into a career, beginning with his first professional role at Cryo Interactive, where he brought his self-taught skills to life in the world of video games.

Captivated by the visuals in The City of Lost Children, Laurent discovered that BUF Compagnie was behind the film’s groundbreaking work and joined the studio in 1996 as a generalist artist. His early hands-on experience on set within a small, collaborative team quickly propelled him into a VFX Supervisor role. During his seven years at BUF, Laurent contributed to several Academy Award-nominated films, including Fight Club and The Cell, as well as iconic titles like Batman & Robin.

As a Visual Effects Supervisor, he brought his artistry to a number of acclaimed and fan-favorite films throughout his career such as A Monster in Paris, The Divergent Series, The Hateful Eight, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Known for his imaginative approach and creative vision, Laurent enjoys translating story ideas into visually compelling sequences. He regards his work on the opening sequence of Lord of War, as a highlight of his career.

Before joining SpinVFX, Laurent was most recently at Outpost VFX, where he worked on The Last Airbender, The Fountain of Youth, Pachinko, and Reacher. At Spin, he looks forward to applying his expertise to craft sequences that enhance storytelling and inspire audiences with the upcoming project, The Lanterns: Season 1, among many more.

Outside of work, Laurent enjoys photography, drawing, writing, movies, gaming, and learning new languages, and plans to add flying to the list soon.
