The 2021 Annie Awards Recognizes ‘Cops and Robbers’ for Excellence in Editing

Presented by The International Animation Film Society, ASIFA Hollywood, the annual Annie Award nominees have been announced. Among the ultra-talented contenders, SpinVFX’s Brandon Terry was recognized in the category of Best Editorial – TV/Media, for his work on the Netflix short film, Cops and Robbers (2020). His co-nominees are Ezra Dweck and Del Spiva.

The film is a collection of artwork from artists around the world, set to Timothy Ware-Hill’s powerful spoken word poem about the slaying of Ahmaud Arbery. SpinVFX served as a virtual ‘hub’ for all of the artist contributions, with President Neishaw Ali serving as Executive Producer on the project, working closely with Timothy Ware-Hill and Arnon Manor, who collaborated to bring the project to life.

With so many spectacular artists involved, it took a careful and creative editorial hand to make sure that they all shined equally.

Cops and Robbers is part of a trio of animated short films that includes Canvas and If Anything Happens I Love You, which also earned an Annie Award nomination in the same category.

Among the many backers for the project was Jada Pinkett-Smith, who also served as Executive Producer. Since the film’s release, Cops and Robbers has garnered international praise for its poignant message.

The Annie Awards will take place virtually this year on April 16th, 2021.
